Hello, my name is Guy Van Rentergem. I live in Belgium and I'm an engineer, problem solver and an active caver (caving club SC33 - VVS). I have participated in many scientific expeditions, sometimes in very difficult field conditions.
Since 2012 I've been working with T-Lidar in caves (Gomantong Caves and Niah Cave, Borneo). While working on these big projects I developed my own methods resulting in:
- fast scans in the field
- short pipeline to the final product
- novel visualisations of the point cloud
Another area of interest is bathymetric survey of rivers, ponds and even boiling volcanic lakes in GPS-denied environments. New innovative techniques make it possible to survey riverbeds very quickly, accurately and repeatably over time. The rapid assessment of riverbeds is also very suitable for surveying difficullt to reach lakes, small rivers and reservoirs. The survey boat of our own design is small enough to be carried and operated by one person.
